Bears Move Easily Past East Lyme

Varsity vs East Lyme HS on 9/22/2008
Posted Monday, September 22, 2008 by Jenna Tucchio
The Bears hosted the Vikings for their third ECC match-up of the 2008 season.  Fronted by a strong stick from Emily Cusack and solid play in the midfield, the Bears dominated East Lyme for most of the 60 minutes of play.  Unable to penetrate Stonington's fast and stable defense, the Vikings found themselves pinned behind the Stonington 50 yard line most of the day.  Led by the speed of Meagan Gomes and the smart evasions of Heather Planchon, the Bears are showing off the skills they have worked hard to develop in the preseason.  Peppering keeper Hebrig, the Bears fed 16 shots on goal, knocking down two beauties.  Kayla Murphy picked up her own rebound with 15 minutes remaining in the first half and buried the first goal into the back of the cage.  Late in the second half, giving wind to center mid Kelly Grills, Meagan Gomes showed great determination hunting down loose balls, eventually firing one to teammate Hayden Riley for a perfect right to left feed on post where Riley slammed it home.  The Bears finished with 11 penalty corenrs, allowing none and no shots on keeper Denise Domnarski.  The Bears travel to Waterford on Friday, looking to fuel up a raging attack and bring home win #5.
